Barbara Wasserman

Artist, Interior Designer, Journalist, Businesswoman

Barbara Wasserman is a professional artist working in oil & acrylic on canvas and mixed media.  She has commissioned works all over the world, and has exhibited in many galleries and shows since 1995.  Her unique style and sense of color echo to her degree in Interior Design from Eastern Michigan University.  With over 20 years in the interior design industry, Barbara uses her experience to create unique hand painted canvas rugs (floor cloths), tapestries & mural paintings, designed specifically for the customer.

Barbara maintains membership in the Michigan Council for Art & Cultural Affairs, ArtServe Michigan, East Tawas Business Association, the Tawas Area Chamber of Commerce, The Tawas Bay Area Tourist Bureau, and the American Craft Council.  She has been a member of the Tawas Bay Artists Council, the Philadelphia Art Alliance, NuVisions: An International Organization of Artists with Disabilities, & the Stencil Artisans League Intl.  As an interior designer, Barbara has been a member of IFDA and ASID/IP.  In 2004 & 2005, she placed third at the Tawas Bay Fine Art on the Beach Show.  Barbara’s work has been published in several journals and publications.

In 2004, Barbara opened Inn2Art, the first multifaceted business featuring a gallery of fine art, fine art supplies, an art instruction studio, interior design services, and picture framing services in the region.  She exhibits her own work as well as other regional artists.  The studio offers a full range of classes and private lessons to the area.  Adults and children come from over 75 miles to attend classes and learn different mediums like batik, encaustic, collage, polymer clay, fresco painting, and the traditional drawing, pastel, and painting mediums.

Today, Inn2Art has been part of an amazing growth in the region of artists, art shows, and galleries.  Barbara brought the concept for the Huron Shoreline Art Show to St. Joseph Health System Foundation, now presenting its third highly acclaimed show. In addition, she assisted in the first area
Art Studio Walk, and is currently planning the first outdoor art show in East Tawas, Art on the Bay.  She envisions future venues like Art on the Dock, where artists come and paint in on the dock for spectators to engage in the art process.  Barbara has been writing as well and hopes to complete two books this year on Plein Air Painting and How to Use a Palette Knife.  Inn2Art is expanding as well.  This year construction begins on a larger facility with residence rooms for visiting art instructors and artists.

All in all, Barbara Wasserman, Inn2Art, and ART are one entity, one purpose, and one vision:  to serve artists & the community by expanding understanding of fine art throughout Northeastern Michigan.
